You start your ascent to Diamond Head on a nice paved path. Being on the leeward side of the island, things are pretty dry and there's not much to look at. You start to become aware you're climbing about the time that nice paved path is replaced by sand and gravel….and up you go, switchback, after switchback, after….you get it? You think you've about had enough and then you get to go through an unlighted tunnel. Enough fun? Not yet, then there's the stairs, then there's the spiral staircase, unlighted again, and then you have arrived! No, wait – what's that? A gun turret? Scrunch down, head first – you're out! And the view makes it all worth it!
